Browser Support and Recommendations
What’s a browser?
A web browser is the application or program on your computer you use to view or ‘browse’ websites (like Sportsvite.com) on the internet. It’s what you’re probably using to read this right now. There are several free browsers to choose from, and some come already installed (Internet Explorer, Safari, etc) on computers when you buy them.
What browser should I use?
The Sportsvite team always does its best to make sure our website works in whatever browser you use. The newer your browser, however, the better your experience will be on our website (and others) — everything will look better and load faster. That’s why we always strongly recommend you use a modern, up-to-date browser like Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome. They’re all FREE and easy to use, just click one of the links provided and follow the simple instructions to install.
Why you shouldn’t use Internet Explorer
You may be familiar with Internet Explorer (IE), which is the standard browser installed on Windows computers. We don’t recommend this browser because it doesn’t provide full support for the more modern features available in the browsers listed above. Sportsvite will still work in this browser, but often it won’t work quite as well. If you can’t or don’t want to use our recommended browsers, and you will be using Internet Explorer, we strongly recommend you upgrade to the most current version, Internet Explorer 8.
Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) does not support modern web technology, so although we do our best to ensure Sportsvite continues to work in it, we can’t guarantee everything will look perfect or load quickly if you choose to use it. So again, if at all possible, consider upgrading to a more modern browser. You’ll notice all websites — not just ours — will look and run a lot better!
The advantages of a modern browser
Websites load faster.
The difference in speed between an old browser like IE6 and a modern browser like Google Chrome can really add up. You’ll spend less time waiting for sites to load and more time doing what you want. Make all the websites you visit faster!
Websites look better.
Older browsers are limited in how they display content, which means they often provide a degraded experience when viewing a website. Upgrade to a modern browser (see above) and you’ll discover how much better the web can look!
Websites are safer.
Not only do websites look better and load faster in a modern browser, but they are also a lot safer. Newer browsers have features to prevent hackers from stealing information you send over the internet. So protect yourself and upgrade your browser!
Websites have more features.
Sometimes websites will disable certain features for older browsers that don’t support them, but if you upgrade your browser, you’ll have access to all those features!
